Hi! My name is Sarah Barbosa...
I am DONA-trained birth doula living in Mankato, MN and serving the Southern Minnesota area. I am also a placenta encapsulation specialist, a breastfeeding and childbirth educator and a certified car seat technician. I have been doing birth work since 2009.
To me, birthwork is far more than just a job or hobby, it is truly my calling in life! I believe that the gift of birth is a beautiful, natural process designed to bring an abundance of blessings to the mother, child and those surrounding them. I view labor and birth as a normal process, not a medical illness or an emergency waiting to happen; and that usually, the fewer interventions the better. I feel that a woman and her family need to be supported in whatever choices they make. My passion is serving women on their journey of labor and birth; providing them and their partners with the positive emotional and physical support that they need so that their experience can be as beautiful and empowering as possible.
In my free time I am an avid reader. I also love to run and have completed multiple half marathons with the goal of finishing a full marathon still on the horizon. I am a "soccer mom" and spend many days on the soccer field cheering on my 16 year old daughter and 13 year old son. I have been married to my "college sweetheart" for close to two decades and am daily amazed at how supportive he is of my crazy birth work schedule.
I would love to talk with you about my services and how I can assist you on the journey ahead of you!
Starting this past January, I enrolled at SWTC as a Midwifery Student working toward my CPM degree. I am currently doing my clinicals at the River Valley Birth Center in St. Peter, MN. Due to my crazy school/clinical/on-call schedule, I'm no longer providing doula services but rather I am focusing on teaching childbirth education and doing placenta encapsulation.
